Ride To A Dusty
Death tells the story of Travis Downey, a young man who
joins the Texas Rangers to avenge the death of his older
brother, Tom. Tom Downey had been a legend in the Rangers,
but his younger brother struggles to earn the respect of
his fellow lawmen, the “men who could not be stampeded!”
The story opens as Travis takes
his place among the lawmen of the mid 1800's. At that time
the Texas Rangers were made up of rugged individuals
charged by Stephen F. Austin to “range across Texas for
the common defense.”
Travis soon discovers that he
has a great deal to learn in order to perfect the skills
that will enable him to survive on the violent Texas
frontier.
One of his first jobs is to
chase a cold blooded murderer across the vast plains of
Texas to bring the outlaw to justice. This almost costs
Travis his life and sends him on a dangerous course that
puts everything he holds dear into peril.
After surviving this ordeal,
Travis joins a Company of Texas Rangers charged with
tracking down and eliminating a warring band of Comanche.
Following a battle with the Comanche at a dusty creek bed,
Travis is accused of cowardice by some of by his fellow
Rangers.
This book tells the story of
the life and times of a young man who proudly wore the
badge made from a Mexican Peso.
